Ski Weekends in Åre
Åre deserves its reputation for being Sweden's top ski resort. Its snow record stretches from November to May with a superb ski area in a beautiful setting, stretching 10km along Åre’s frozen lake. The overwhelming unspoilt scenery of low, sweeping mountains and pine-clad forests are complemented by the tasteful and colourfully presented wooden lodgings that punctuate the landscape.
There are two main ski areas in Åre covering a respectable 97Kms of marked pistes. A top station of 1,275m above sea level may seem a little odd for those who are used to climbing to 3,000m+ in the Alps, but altitude is not a pre-requisite for good snow in Scandinavia, meaning only a 1 hour transfer time from Ostersund Airport.
With the majority of Åre's slopes classed as blue or red, there is a great selection for beginner and intermediate skiers. The more advanced may consider hiring a guide to experience some of the challenging off-piste areas. The resort's ski schools and guides are highly recommended.
Between the 3rd and 18th of February 2007, Åre plays host to some of the world’s best skiers as the World Ski Championships come to town. During the 16 day competition, ten world champions will be crowned after flying down the Olympia World Cup runs to Åre village faster than their competitors. Filmed for a worldwide television audience, it promises to be a great spectacle and could offer an exciting boost to your team.
